Cha-Cha

Cha-Cha Dance

The Cha-Cha (originally known as the Cha-Cha-Cha) is one of the five dances of the “Latin American” program of international ballroom dance competitions. It was originated in Cuba in the early 1950’s, and was derived from the Rumba and the Mambo.
The Cha-Cha consists of triple chasse steps (cha-cha-cha’s) and rock steps. This dance has a modified Cuban Motion – hip action, because of the speed. Cha-Cha emphasizes fast footwork and a strong internal sense of rhythm.
In the International Latin Style, the weighted leg is almost always straight. The free leg will bend, allowing the hips to naturally settle into the direction of the weighted leg.
In general, steps are kept compact and the dance is danced usually without any rise and fall. The modern ballroom technique of the Cha-Cha does undergo gradual evolution, particularly in competition dancing, but in essence is still firmly based on its Cuban origin.
It is a fun & flirty dance that will get your heart pumping and put a smile on your face.
